Compare Toric Lenses – See the Difference
If you always compare toric lenses with ordinary contacts – don't. They are not alike.
To compare toric contact lens with daily color contacts is like comparing candy to medicine.
Toric contact lenses are made from the same materials as regular or spherical contact lens eye wear.
They can be either soft or RGP, but this is where the similarity ends as toric lenses are created with curvatures at different angles.
The angle of these curvatures depends on one's condition (astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia).
Some also have the mechanism to keep the eye wear relatively stable on the eyes when you blink or look around.
To provide crisp vision, toric contact lenses should not rotate inside your eyes.
Compare Toric Lenses with Spherical Contacts
Toric lenses are harder to fit than daily color contacts and require a true eye specialist.
The toric lens themselves cost more than spherical lenses.
Furthermore, you will discover that fitting a toric lens will be more expensive than ordinary contact lens fitting.
If you have minor astigmatism, between zero and 1.00 diopter, you may still be able to wear a regular spherical RGP or a spherical soft lens.
If you have been told, however, that you can't wear soft contact lenses because of your astigmatism – think again.
Nowadays there are many brands of soft toric lenses available, your eye care specialist can select the brand that best suits your eyes.
Toric lenses now even come in frequent replacement, disposable or daily disposable varieties.
Torics today not only help you with your vision but make you look great as well, they are available in many colors that change or illuminate your natural eye color.
Some colored torics are even available as disposables.
